cats tend to play with, but not eat, them so try not to think the worse on that. have you any loose plug socket type areas, ours got into the skirting once apparently.
I've heard of several happy endings - Jen sounds wise in her advice! I know our cat 'caught' our gerbil a few times and never harmed it at all, so I think the hamster has quite a good chance...
One of ours got behind the bath panel; we managed to entice her out with a trail of sunflower seeds. Yo have to wait till the house is all quiet and listen for the scratchings and scufflings. Good luck; we are waiting with bated breath for the next instalment...

My sisters always got out, tended to find him safely asleep behind cupboards and bookcases so you could try there.

Tried everywhere on ground floor...Unsure about whether she could climb stairs. Of course the cat is a worry.

Thanks girls - and I've just heard of a happy ending where the hamster lived behind the toilet for 2 weeks. Keeping hoping and looking...

She's a girl - but we planned on getting a boy hence name and confusion!
