Banning Carbohydrates for one of us,and frugal living

Amazingly my new low carb diet has not seem to have cost very much money, apart from the initial outlay in vitamins and super vitamin chromium (apparently burns fat! - can if be true?). I've been doing our shopping for the past 3 weeks from Asda home deliveries. It's been costing me just over £50 a week, which for four of us is fantastic. I do have to buy the odd thing during the week, but usually just a little milk and fruit.

Plus, for those doubters out there - it is all good quality, I am most certainly as guilty as most people for being a food snob, and have been know to refuse to eat anything I think is from a questionable source (shop across the road from us in London in particular). OK, it is not Waitrose or Marks and Spencers' - you have to do the work making the basics in to something yummy - it doesn't already appear looking appealing. But am fairly pleased with it all, and with basing meals around protein, at least for me.

And the amazing diet news is that I've lost 8lb's in one week, which I'm really pleased with. The weird thing is I had lost it a couple of days ago and now stalled. Suspect the stall is down to the accidental wine drinking which occurred on Thursday night. I am not regretting the wine - as I needed it. It cured my monstrous detox headache (yes I know) and it cheered me up no end.

Still I won't be having wine this week - too excited about rapid weight loss to bother.

Any low carb but high protein tips for breakfast would be appreciated though - eggs are losing their appeal, and of course I don't eat meat so running out of options...

hi there,

well done on the 8lbs, however this is always the case for the first week as you are loosing the excess water. fingers crossed for more weight loss though now comes the hard part!

If you don't mind me saying, your diet, like any unnatural way of eating is doomed with failure. Depriving your body of something as significant as carbohydrate, which would normally provide slow-release energy, will force your body to develop a 'siege' mentally. This will mean that to fuel it through this period of weird eating it will store fat. The only way to lose weight and keep it lost is to making sensible eating a habit and combine this with exercise. Eat a carbohydrate rich breakfast (oats, cereals) thus providing the fuel to start the day. Eat slow-release carbohydrate (wholemeal pasta, couscous) as part of a balanced lunch and then leave the carbs out of the evening meal and have protein and vegetables/fruit. The carbs are not necessary in the evening as you would be sleeping on them. An unbalanced diet which leans towards the proteins will put a strain on your kidneys and as soon as you come off it you'll be fat again.

Hmm, thanks for that - I know what you're saying but disagree..as this diet is proven, plus I will be re-introducing carbs in the next phase. Just good ones - like wholemeal and porridge, and very occasionaly the bad stuff. Like any decent diet I think its all about a new way of eating, so hopefully sustainable.
And always good to be called fat on the internet!

Very kind Richard thank you.
At least I'm normal and doomed...
Oh, and I've just realised I can pretty much never drink lager again until I reach my target - so suspect actual target will be determined by need to drink lager/whether its hot enough in March to have first outside pint.
